Bouncy shoes, Kevin Ryan, Culp, Cocks, and Cox
Is there anyone out there other than
@TalbotCox who doesn't think these shoes are a problem? I wasn't sure, but somehow reading this thread is pushing me toward the "get rid of em" camp. Wherein
@KMRyanTri and
@bbculp team up with
@Heather Wurtele (or Trevor? Who knows) and
@EmilyCocks to point out why running with springy shoes is like swimming with fins, and Talbot claims they are all a bunch of widdle cwy babies who are just sad that they don't have Nikes.
I like making fun of Culp as much as the next person, but even I'm having a hard time getting on board with The Coxswain here.

Also, I’d argue against Culp’s claim of propulsive running. While the plate acts as a leaf spring, the runner must load that spring, it doesn’t add energy to the system. They merely act to decrease energy loss, much as the “bouncy foam” does.
Anyway, coming from a swimming background where I saw a generation of world-class swimmers screwed by floating suits and asterisked world records, I say nip this thing in the bud. Or go full F1 and have people turn in shoes to stewards after the race for controls, and they get DQd if it fails a test.
They did it back in the day when they added fins to the javelin. Also look st the pole vault when it moved up to bamboo, and then fiberglass. Same with the swimsuits, and the UCI frame design rules.

But wait until Tokyo and the new Nike Spring Track shoe.
What were we talking about again?
TRS Radio ad "The best thing to happen to distance runners since Vaporflys and/or drugs."
Don't forget, Nike has abused its male runners and staff, too. #HeToo
