Custom insoles

Brew_TriBrew_Tri Member, Rooster Endurance Member

Anyone have experience with custom insoles for running shoes? Looking at some of these and they have to be of some value, otherwise all of these websites would be out of business.

Like orthotics? I know some people who swear by them, including D1 runners and doctors, but never used them myself.

For the custom, mail order stuff, I know nothing other than insurance probably won’t pay for them, but it will pay for doctor prescribed orthotics, so you might actually be better off with a trip to the podiatrist.

I say yes. They help my old feet for sure. So does daily rolling on the golf ball.

The best products have been made custom from my foot doctor (a running expert). However, they are $$$. Then I settled on Superfeet, and Powerstep as generics. But now, there are independent, non prescription shops that are making custom insoles for running. I'd recommend finding one of those around you that molds to your foot and builds it up with high quality materials for durability and proper stiffness.

I can't comment for running, but I will say that when I got custom orthotics in my Ski boots it was world changing!

So many niggling issues went away.

I had years of prescription orthotics for running that did nothing for me. I finally bit the bullet and completely rebuilt my stride and started to run without knee issues for the first time in over 10 years. Your results might vary.

I do use Specialized blue footbeds in my cycling shoes, and Superfeet in snowboard boots.
