Triathlon Gossip Goes Mainstream in NYT
I think it's more just a turn of phrase than anything else.
He has a point: I think people who get caught cutting courses are vilified worse than those who get caught doping. Course cutting is viewed as a matter of integrity, of trust. Doping is viewed as...well, the elephant in the room of all sports.
My opinion is that they're equally reprehensible. But I could see where the sentiment of "at least you did the full course" comes from.
