Figured it's time to start off the thread for 2017

I ran the Donna 110 ultra marathon in Jacksonville Beach this weekend. 2 day race with 83.8 miles on Saturday followed by 26.2 Sunday morning. I finished day 1 in 14:48, over 2 hours behind the leader but over 2 hours ahead of 3rd. I wish it would have been 110 straight. My entire body locked up Saturday night and my marathon Sunday was just a battle of will. Most painful thing I can remember doing, 6:07 of pure torture. Thought about quitting numerous times, but didn't want to waste the 84 miles I had already logged. Final time was roughly 20:55 which is about an 11:25 min/mi. The guy that won is a machine, and possibly the nicest guy I've ever met. He did the first day in 12:13 (8:44 min/mi which was a bad day for him) then followed it up with a freakin 3:01 marathon.

Me and my little guy at the finish

    2017 Gate River Run 15k
Field had 6 olympians. 5000m silver medalist Paul Chelimo only outkicked me by 12 minutes. I went 58:15, which I think is a PR, and finished 100 something-th. If you're in the southeast, this race is one of the most fun I've done.

Local Olympic tri. Tied my PR on the course with a 2:04 (22 swim, 59 bike, 41 run). Brutally hot. 2nd AG 4th OA

Hayden’s first BAAW. This was cheaper than the Bianchi he was eyeing

  • Any tips for running in the rain?

Didn't break 3. Pulled the plug on that at mile 19. Needed to hold 7 min/mi to get under 3:02. Went 3:01:48 which will hopefully get me an invite because I'm done racing marathons, to much pain. Now off to ST to rub in there face that a 230lb man can BQ. Those fuckers told me 2 years ago I was crazy and there was no way. Also, for everyone else's sake, I have to wear a shirt. I'm a fluffy 230

Finally installed my bars and got rid of my boner stem. Then proceeded to break my rear brake (have I mentioned I hate these things?). Cables will get cleaned up after a couple rides

Ever have a race where you're just happy you didn't die? Olympic today on the surface of the sun. Heat index at 9am of 103F (that's around a million C I think) and ZERO clouds or shade. My 920 refused to turn on this morning to make things more fun. How does one run without a watch? Sitting in the garage cleaning my bike (read: drinking beer), so my wife my have an actual photo of me dying on the run. On a less funny note, someone had to be airlifted out of the race due to a moron driver. At least 2 accidents and several went to the hospital from the heat. Be careful out there.

There's some fast people in NE Florida. 6th OA and 3rd in AG

Edit to add near death photo:

  • Rankin = Legend.

Thanks all for the ego boost. Knew KQ was a long shot, but it was fun to give it a shot. Admittedly I could have done a better job dropping weight for the race. Was about 5 pounds heavier than Cedar Point last year, and much softer. When the kid eats pizza rolls, so does dad. WTC fat shames doing away with the Clydesdale division. Glad I didn't kill myself trying though. No matter what I did, 9:03 (last Kona slot) wasn't isn't the cards for me Saturday.
