  • Making friends in my local running club FB group

I came across this gem in my local running club Facebook group. A local XC coach commented that the local Turkey trot to benefit the Red Cross was a rip off because we didnt have chip timing, mile markers, or a race clock. The event is a fucking fundraiser! I've volunteered the last 4 years putting this event together. We get about 3000 registered which is huge for my small town. 90% of the people walk the 5k. Theres kids, babies in strollers, dogs on leashes. For the most part, this is the only 5k these people are going to do all year. They dont gove a shit about time. And no where do we advertise chip timing or any kind of awards. $25 is a great price point without scaring anybody away with high fees. I couldn't help offering some sarcastic perspective to this guy. I'll keep you all posted on my petty party here.

I didn't get a chance to read the first thread that Dan pulled, but there was a second thread concerning that first thread. It was entitled something like, "Did I miss something?".
The next day, that second thread was pulled. There was nothing in that thread that was controversial.
I was going to post a complaint here. ST has been so ass backwards. The majority of people on there are tools with no personality. Granted, that's the nature of our sport.
Again, I know it's Dan's domain and we have to follow his rules, but his rules or application of his rules have been turning me off. Someday, I'll be that old and cranky, but that's not today.

Have you ever met Cyber Awareness Jeff IRL?

That looks like fun. Most of my training looks like an elaborate PowerPoint presentation. "Click this button to learn more about yadda yadda..."
Phishing emails is the big concern now. Our own company test spanms us with an emails to see if we click on them or enter a password. If you fuck up too many times, they can fire you.
What's more exciting is the yearly force-on-force exercises that they hold at power plants. The NRC mandates a yearly test where ex navy seals/military attempt to penetrate the plant. They outfit the security team that's conducting the exercise with laser guns and vests. Theres another security that ensures security while the other one is conducting the test. A nuclear power plant is the last place you would want to attack.

Though beyond extremely unlikely with modern safeguards and a small flammability range, this could happen

    Poop joke

Yucca mountain is one of the most studied site in the world. We've blown $9 billion dollars in analyzing it. But back in 2006, Nevada's senator Harry Reid became the house majority leader. He was quoted to say he would do everything in his power to stop yucca mountain. His reasoning was NIMBY (not in my backyard).
    It's been shelved ever since.
