Just to weigh in on Wisconsin.... pretty much just socially accepted alcoholism. This means old fashions with brandy(not whiskey), Miller light, and shots of bitters(small town northern wisco thing).

    Some others...
    Squeaky cheese curds
    Frozen custard stands

@Brew_Tri - my in-laws are in Chippewa Falls and I'm in love every time I can go to the Northern Wisconsin State Fair... Leinenkugels beer, fresh and fried cheese curds and everything on a stick to eat, fried fish and then some Cherry Garden Ice-cream on the way home from Olson's

Boston Cooler = Vernors ginger ale and Vanilla ice cream float.
    Paczkis on Fat Tuesday
    Sanders hot fudge

    I guess Detroit loves sweets.

explain this. Bologna, boiled potatoes, and curds is a pretty common meal in Cape Breton. Is potato bologna similar or do they infuse potatoes into the bologna?

You need to come to Montreal to understand this, but if you head to the main club district in late January, in the middle of a -40 cold snap, you will see a lot of men in Canada Goose parkas complaining about the cold, and a lot of women wearing basically what they will wear inside the club - sleeveless tops, heels, skinny jeans - and not complaining.

I'm sure the same thing happens in some Scandinavian country, but I have lived here for over 15 years and continue to be amazed.

We just moved to Wisconsin. A few observations.
Brat frys- seems like Wednesday is the chosen day for places to have brat frys in the parking lot.
Alcohol everywhere- bourbon samples at a grocery store
Green Bay Packers- (strange fun cult) On Fridays everyone wears Packer gear. My son has had two Packer days at school already, where he can wear Packer gear instead of school uniform.
I am a Lions fan from birth, but this kind of love of a football team is strange. I don’t own any Lions gear.
I lived in another small market (Buffalo) and they liked their team but nothing like the Packers fans.

My favorite things about Wisconsin are Friday fish frys and local supper clubs (where you can drink 6 brandy old fashioneds with dinner and no one will judge you).

I will have to look into these supper clubs.
Friday fish frys year round are great.

    Dear @AaronWebstey,

Even though the largest poutine chain is run by an anglophone entrepreneur from Toronto, it's a French Canadian tradition.

You can claim donairs or garlic fingers or whatever the hell you grease up with on the weekends out east, but keep your eyes off my cheese curds.

@G Scott Layher There's a great coffee table book about the best supper clubs in Wisconsin. I've been to all of the ones in southern/central Wisco, as well as a few up north. https://www.amazon.com/Wisconsin-Supper-Clubs-Old-Fashioned-Experience/dp/1572841427

What part of the state are you in?

Where I'm (originally) from they call liquor stores "package stores." Dollar to whoever guesses where that is.

Kombucha is certainly not unique to Seattle but I bet being asked if you want coffee or Kombucha on tap when you sit down for brunch at a diner might be unique.

We have at least 5 Kombucha breweries in Montreal.

I brought up that I buy kombucha when I go to the farmer's market and none of my coworkers have ever heard of it and the thought of having a fermented beverage freaked them out.

Do they drink beer, wine or any hard liquor?

We have this carbonated yogurt "drink" called Kéfir and it's delicious.

I just learned that ginger beef is a Western Canadian thing? Which means that there are Chinese buffets in the world without ginger beef? I'm starting to question everything now...
