On the plus side, he managed to blow past the first woman within a few miles of the the bike start. TV time!

Starky looking pretty good for a guy who was run over by a truck within the last two years. I look forward to his 6.5 hour suicide mission today.

@KenElPescadoPelado My quick recap of interesting points so far.

    Charles broke women’s swim record.

Ryf had terrible swim. Saw in Twittersphere she was stung by jelly fish.

Kienle ( my favorite) was looking great but had mechanical and had to swap rear wheel. Now coming back.

Sanders swim stunk. Came out way after the Uber bikers.

Lieto Id’ed as “Ironman U Coach” when on screen. Hahaha

Commentators referring to Starky as “a man with a big personality”. Broadcast-friendly version of asshole.

Is that title above or below "internet user"?

Is Wurf going to bikepack home after the race? That's a big saddlebag.

Oh wait, that's Amberger. But he does have a big bag on his saddle, too.

AG draft pack going the other way. Ridiculous.

Barring a superhuman effort from Sebi, the only big name missing from the chase right now is Lionel. Team Germany working hard not to let him back on, and with them sitting within 4 minutes of the lead 3 (call if 5-6 minutes at T2?), this is going to be a helluva footrace with Lange, Currie and Gomez (who is sitting on Lange's wheel as if it was Brownlee's in an ITU race) in the mix.

Yep this is going to be a fast run! Lange, Gomez, Currie showdown. Sanders and Kienle have gone backward a bunch since I last checked.

Nice to see the swim matter a bit, Lucy Charles is killing it out there, I'm rooting for her.

Sebi and Lionel are not doing well. Charles will likely be overtaken.
    Ugh.
The best part of this race was Frodeno.

How much time can Ryf put into Charles in 15 km?

Which of the uber runners like Aernouts are we not giving enough respect to for the win?

Yuck. Ryf. I really hope True and Haug can make up time on run and make it a race with Charles chasing.

At least the men’s run race should be epic. I am anti-BE13 but still have soft spot for Javi. Damn it. I hate it when dimples mess with my moral principles.

    So many 4:10-4:15 splits.

    Currie and Aernouts looking great.

I loved Jan talking on the broadcast about how Drietz is a teammate of Lange and they basically rode together.

Did somebody shorten the Hawi turnaround or some shit?

"Kona such a hard bike course". "It was so windy bla bla bla". I guess the excuses will have to be different this year. :) The last two years have been crazy fast on the bike. Let's go somewhere else for a world champs sometime. Maybe a major city, not on a tropical island that cost a million dollars to get to?

Damnit. I dont want to watch Lange blitz the field for 26 miles after soft-pedaling for 112 miles. Don't @ me.

    Beijing?

I would actually vote for Nice. It satisfies your criteria of not costing $1M to get to, but it does cost $1M to stay there.

I think the draft pack of the age group created some kind of a vacuum that pulled the pros along faster than superdomestique Dreitz, no, their drafting , no, their perfectly legal paceline would normally have allowed

I really Really hope True doesn’t come in 4th. Still a bit haunted by her interviews after London when she said after a while she wished she’d finished further back so she skipped so many “what if” thoughts.

I didn't catch those interviews, but I hope she finishes well. I've been a big fan of her after watching that London performance. I doubt 4th today would haunt her the same way. There's no one else that I want to win Kona more (one day) than her.
