Still don't know why, but I signed up for a 5k swim (wetsuits prohibited) this Saturday. Nothing like a week of prep to swim 5k.
Do people eat/drink during a 5k swim? I assume it will take about 1.5 hours (+/- 15 min) - no plans to race, just complete. It's a 3 looped course with the return leg of each lap on the shore side - i suppose I could keep a bottle on shore and run up for a drink each lap, but honestly I have no idea how these things work. I assume it will be a moot point when my body cramps up and I quit after lap 1.
I wasn't drinking, but I also signed up at the same time for Gravel Worlds (the 75 mile route) coming up in August. I don't have a gravel bike and just dusted off my mountain bike to find I have no brakes. Summer of Mistakes 2018!

@Rash , don't worry about drink or nutrition for your 5k. That's only about 1200m past an ironman, and you aren't required to ride a bike after. You'll be just fine as long as you are normally hydrated before and eat a good meal a couple hours prior.
In the 10k swims for Ultraman, the swimmers eat/drink typically every 1k or 2k, but remember that they're trying not to become calorie depleted since they have to ride 4-5 hour after. This is compounded by the fact they want to finish day 1 and day 2 as far away from calorie deprived as possible in order to speed recovery.

@Tad_Machrowicz any idea if you can drop you own off or you need to use what’s there? The TRS TRI shorts have a small pocket for the Vespa so I’m likely going to pack it with me anyway
What I’ve learned so far is keeping everything as liquid as possible works best and that training for an ultra swim is mind numbingly boring.
