My holiday favorite is Swedish orange saffron cake. If I had to bring something to represent Seattle, I'd bring a pot advent calendar to share.

Wine, not wings and bacon wrapped water chestnuts drizzled with a bizarrely tasty pairing of mayo, brown sugar and sriracha. I don’t partake in that last one anymore but people love it (and me by extension right?) so I still bring it to parties. Sweet, spicy, crunchy, bacony... what’s not to love?

@wchevron I think she makes them very similar to this.. They are one of my favorites. She usually makes a whole shitload of them for the freezer, then just throw them in the Crock-Pot when people are coming over.

Donuts, of course, but holidays deserve special effort. I'd bring bacon wrapped, gouda stuffed sausage balls. @Craig D and I would ration these fat bombs as we imagined what all the goodies tasted like. Including these standard Peanut Butter Blossom cookies. I like them at holiday time, cause they remind me of great times with my mom and grandma.

I was going to be offended and say “absolutely not I would totally bring something more thoughtful!”
Then I remembered the last three parties I went to, I brought chips and salsa.
    You have me pegged, @M_Ware

@Craig D is there coconut in those Nanaimo bars? I'd also crawl through broken glass to get those...

I'm more of a main course guy, but a tray of tiny Montréal smoked meat sandwiches (medium, not lean), with the greasy goodness saturating the rye bread just enough to complement the plain yellow mustard.

@Matt I've had with and without. There's a little old lady at the local farmers market that makes them in many many different ways. The kahlua ones are out of this world. 25 minutes to make them according to this. Be forewarned...It could derail your season before it even starts.

Important to keep the ground meat at 1 oz per ball. doesn't do as well if it's too big. We like to fry the bacon a bit before wrapping so they're crisper in the end.

@Tad_Machrowicz for the Keto people that have managed to stay on the straight and narrow:

Dairy free eggnog: Pretty good stuff. Made it for one of my kids. Gets more flavour the longer it sits. Substitute stevia with a dash of maple syrup

    https://www.healthfulpursuit.com/recipe/dairy-free-eggnog/

Also make my own chia fat bomb dessert: 1 cup of coconut milk, 3 tbsp of chia seeds, dash of vanilla, allspice, nutmeg, and maple syrup. Shake vigorously off and on for 10 min until the chia stops settling. Let stand overnight for best results.

Variations:1. Substitute coconut milk with eggnog recipe above and delete the vanilla. 2 add a Nanaimo bar to the above and blend. Tell yourself over and over it's just a carb sneak.

@M_Ware I'd definitely bring something with venison, and lots of beer. This year i did some of these and they went over real well.

    1st Annual bourbon tasting contest.

Had the 14 year old running it:

The Colonel Taylor was the winner. Third from the left. Larceny and Blanton's were 2 & 3.
    Everyone spit out the Chivas.

    Gang,
Seasons Greetings. Hope the coming New Year proves a good one for all.

Curious: Anyone else have a good regional brewery that does small batch releases? Would you want to do some swaps? I'm fully into talking about bikes and whatnot but I've gotten into trading regional brews and would be up for a swap or two or three from folks on here. Hit me up if interested.

The fact that Chivas was even included is a shame.

That was to throw everyone off. It was disgusting.

Will take suggestions for next year. After going to the Kentucky Derby last year, my parents have taking a liking to bourbon.

Stick to the same family (Bourbon, Scotch, Rye, etc.) for best results
e.g. Aberlour is a Scotch, not a bourbon.

    Buffalo Trace
    Maker's Mark 46
    Four Roses Single Barrel
    Parker's Heritage Collection
    Van Winkle
