Kienle, A.Brownlee, Tim Don, Ben Kanute and a little birdy told me Mr. Sanders will also be toeing the start line. Holy shit this could be awesome!

Has anyone helped Jan change his tire yet? Would be awesome if he headed there for a redemption race. Curious if Tim Don's monster year on the bike continues.

This is one of those "tough" courses that should favor someone like Sanders. I'm sure Brownlee/Don will lead early on the bike, with Sanders somewhere within 3 minutes. Assuming no flats or other drama, Lionel should be able to bridge up to the leaders well before the steep part of the course (around 35 miles) and then put some time into them before T2. My big question is how fast can Alistair run 13.1 miles on that St George course? He's probably going to have to run sub 1:10 to beat Lionel assuming the rest of the race plays out in Sanders favor. I don't see that happening in his first long course race. Lionel will push 350+ watts and run around 1:13, everyone else will be fighting for podium spots. My picks, 1.Sanders 2.Don 3.Brownlee

I would do pretty much anything to see @TRS_tri and @Dark_mark go and do pre-and-during-race interviews and commentary.

Not sure Jan needs redemption. He made his once a year continental US stop and went all out on the swim for the benefit of his new wetsuit sponsor TYR. Mission accomplished. It was like when the JV team scrimmages against the varsity - it means everything to one team and it's just another practice for the other. Not saying Lionel isn't improving or wouldn't have beaten Jan, just noting the fact that this was just a race that worked around US sponsor obligations to one person and the biggest race of the first half of the year to the other. I am sure Jan would have preferred to win, but I don't think he is losing any sleep over it.

Brownlee should be first out of the water (or in the front pack) - will be interesting to see how he bikes.

I'm also curious to see how Brownlee rides. I have no doubt he will be fast, just wonder if he can still run to his potential at the 70.3 distance.

I was just telling a friend this morning my new weight loss strategy is to start eating lots of tainted beef.

Damn this looks like an awesome race. Knowing ironman's history of "coverage," I am considering just driving 10hr over there to watch.

Don, Kienle, Brownlee. I think those three make sure Sanders does not come back on the bike. I'm being optimistic that Kienle can put a minute or two on him in the water. How badass is this field that we aren't event mentioning three sub-8 IM athletes (McMahon, Hoffman, Raelert), one of whom is an ITU-level swimmer, and Ben Kanute.

Women: Holly Lawrence. Elie Salthouse. Heather Wurtele.

The secret is out - by Canadian law, we are not allowed to overtly favour our fellow countrypeople to win any race, debate, award, or international election/appointment.

I call 1. Sanders 2. Brownlee 3. McMahon and 1. Lawrence 2. Wurtele 3. Salty and now I sit and wait for the Mounties to come take me to jail

why do you guys think sanders is racing? he is not on the entry list but could of missed something on twitter or facebook

I think the odds of Sanders and Kienle coming out of T2 within "work together" distance in a wetsuit swim are now higher than Kienle being in the front pack on the swim.

Should be a hell of a race.

Tilburs stated on ST that St. George was in Lionel's plans when someone asked if Lionel was racing.

I think it will be interesting to see how this shakes out, especially how Brownlee goes. Worth noting, he has a great track track record at the Abu Dhabi international triathlon a wonky 1.5k 100k 10k non-draft triathlon which might suggest the slightly lower pace will be less killer for him in the heat. In 2014 he put 5 plus minutes into the likes of Wild, Schildknenicht, Aernouts (biking between 5 and 7 minutes into them). Interestingly the run times for most seem "steady" i.e. the fastest was 33 minutes of the top 5 so 1:10 ish...

Edit - Apparently we are jumping the gun on Brownlee http://www.220triathlon.com/news/ali-brownlee-to-race-gloria-challenge-mogan-gran-canaria/11712.html
