I’m curious. How did you get here? One day you are a normal person treating your body like you have a spare and then...

I enjoy the site, especially the sarcastic Random Triathlete Q&A. Keep it up!
I love the community and the friends I made thanks to the sport. I never had regrets, but I wish I could race long again one day.
So, I started jogging. Then, I started running. I re-found my love for cycling and hit the roads and trails around my house on my old, heavy mountain bike. I ran my first race on July 4, a local 5K. After a few 5Ks here or there, I upped it to 10Ks in the fall. That winter, I stayed dedicated and ran through all sorts of weather and darkness and cold and snow and everything.
I ran a 15K is two-degree weather in Nashville (!?) and thought about how I could take my racing to the next level. So, of course, I came to triathlon. I found TRS through DCR and here I am.
Oh, and that July 4 race, my first? That was 2015, not even a year ago. I raced my first triathlon last Sunday and am already signed up for Rev3 Poconos (Olympic) in August. I hit the pool last night (because I'm still a shitty swimmer).
In short, it's been a wild year, but I'm in love. I'm STILL buzzing from Sunday. So, yeah... that's how I came to tri.

I'm an angel with an incredible capacity for beer
"...polish rubbed off over time" - I applaud Mr. Kowalski's patience. Or is this a Starky reference?
I'd say 3 of these factors are equal influencers for me. To maintain health, offset alcohol consumption, and have a challenge - these are all the reasons why I tri.
Finally, on a guy's weekend trip to Vegas, I got shit faced, met Axl Rose at the bar at Hard Rock casino, and partied harder than I thought imaginable... Hookers, blow, bottles of Jameson's... That was two years ago, and the last partying I've ever done. I tell people I went out on top!
When I got home from the trip, I dusted off my bike, relearned to swim and was on my way to living healthy. And I got to go back to my parents and finally use the Triathletes training bible.

Life got in the way, and my fear of the swim.
Fast forward 20 years, and I'm out of shape, +40 lbs., and just straightened out my energy by fixing a thyroid issue. Tried another in 2007 completely out of shape, again scaring myself on the swim.
Did trail running for a few years till I finally bought a book and pledged to learn to swim safely.
2012 onward has been the greatest thing ever once I immersed myself in the sport. It's absolutely an incredible addiction. Go TRS!

I still occasionally ride by the cemetery where she is buried (Mill Valley, baby!) and I almost always cry when I race because I started tri to find a way to cry again. It's also really fun.
