EDIT: My reading comprehension sucks, @dhr commented on WITTR.
I wasn't sure what to make of Cannibal Corpse when I figured out their content (for obvious reasons, they were prolly my first exposure to death metal in the mid-90s). Then I decided I didn't like their music and moved on.

Mostly Viking/Folk, but their singer says:
I'm glad 80's rock is over.
"Death is an inevitability, isn't it? You become more aware of that when you get to my age. I don't worry about it. I'm ready for it. When I go, I want to go doing what I do best. If I died tomorrow, I couldn't complain. It's been good."

I think this Russian band's debut is amazing. I've been running to this album a bunch of late.

Interesting mix of the chants/blast beats.

Devin Townsend is still my all-time favourite
Opeth through Ghost Reveries. I like everything after, but it's not death metal (obviously). Everything through Ghost Reveries is spectacular.
Now I have trouble listening to any non Åkerfeldt growls. Live, they're amazing.
How about the other DT? (and not Darkthrone)
