OURA RING

Not the NovaRing......

Has anyone heard of this? It's base price is $300. I feel like I don't get enough sleep to begin with. The question is, would I benefit from my technology telling me when I should sleep?
When keeping it real goes terribly wrong.

    1. Does your lifestyle really allow you to change your sleep patterns? I know I don't sleep enough - I have an 'Oura Wife' that reminds me of this daily - but it would take a couple of significant lifestyle choices to change that, and a ring is not going to make a difference.

    2. I am skeptical that these apps really deliver personalized advice. If you can get by with 5-6 hours a night and a short nap during the day, will the ring tell you that, or will it just tell you that most 40-something white guys with your level of physical activity need x hours and try to make you work towards that goal?

Thank you for the clarification. They do have a not fully black girl on the website doing the ropes.

Part of me knows I should get enough sleep, and I've known it for a while. And I don't know if this bit of technology would be the thing to push me over. You know, the "I spent $$$ on this, so I better effing use it" syndrome. I set alarms and everything, but I still stay up too late. I've started trying to do my workouts in the morning, and that has made me tired so I go to bed a little bit earlier, but I probably could use more sleep.

I've had one for about three weeks now and I love it. That said, I'm a nerd. Also I do shift work and work a billion hours and somehow still think it's a good idea to try to exercise as much as possible. So I got it in an effort to keep myself from being a total dumbass. It's helping and also it's just cool. For example, I came off my last night shift of this particular stretch at 6a today. It just told me I got only 37 minutes of REM sleep this morning, my resting heart rate was pretty good, but my heart rate variability sucked balls. And I have a nice graph about how all my physiological measures trended down, down, down into the toilet over the past 4 night shifts. I'm now going to go do some light exercise and try to sleep again, rather than hammer out something dumb and wake up feeling like death again tomorrow.

I found a coupon code online and think I got it for closer to $230.

I've thought about getting one. Apple watch and an app is really unreliable. Skeptical a ring would be much more accurate though . That and 2 kids under 3, and a wife who occasionally picks up night shits, I'm scared to see how little I actually sleep now.

Truth. It's the kids that effs everything up. I know I should sleep, but it's like I need to do one more thing. The thing that scares me is that as fit as I'm getting/staying, I have family history of stroke, and I know a lot of it is stemmed from poor sleep.

When I was a teenager, I would come home late, and my dad would be on the internet for no reason (not porn), and he'd be up past when I went to bed, and would be one of the first up.

Anyway, I need to sleep more.
