Fancy Bears

So, I guess everyone has read this. Fancy Bears efforts labeled as a retaliation by the GRU against outing of the Russian doping scandal, and in particular against those most vocal against banning the Russian athletes.
Does this make the information shared any more/less credible (i don't see claims of falsification), does this make the actions exposed any more/less dubious? I find this all interesting and a rational (not condoned) retaliatory effort by a group who was attacked.
Does anyone know if the athletes affected by the Fancy Bears efforts were slammed by false or fabricated info, or if the athletes have claimed this?
