Recommend me new cycling shoes

Title says it all. I don't care if they are for Tri - my tri days are largely over and I have a pair. I want a great cycling shoe that is comfortably, of great quality and roughly in the $250ish range give or take a few bones. If they come in awesome neon colors it is a bonus - I love my cycling gear gaudy. I am back on the bike and just ordered a new road bike for more comfort but I'm disconnected on the trends and hype and figure someone here can just narrow this down to a few models. Thanks in advance.

Giro empires. After destroying a pair for triathlon I've ordered another to wear properly. Most comfortable shoe I've worn.

    Red and Black.

Good call on trying to color coordinate. I wouldn't want to look ridiculous.

I've been eyeing Giro as a brand based on what I'm seeing on the road.

Performance bike had the red and black Giro Empires on sale recently. I picked up a pair, and haven't had the heart to hack them up to be tri shoes yet. They're very comfy.

I have the all white, and they are incredible.

How do people feel about Lake shoes? I've been wearing Specialized for the past 4 years (2 pairs) but I'm also in the market for a new pair or road shoes.

Curious about people's experience with Lake and Mavic.

I'm tempted to get a pair to color with markers and use for casual wear. B)

    Good stuff all. Thank you.

I've been wearing converse low tops 6 out of 7 days a week since I was 15. I like not thinking about these things but I appreciate the notes in particular on the style, I hadn't considered it much since I've been married to ti-shoes so long. I think I like the buckles - laces are a bad idea for a guy who continues to find new and creative ways to hurt themselves. The wire is always kind of sexy but I fear I'd find the way to break it.

Anyway, the colors are awesome. I have three weeks to decide and order. Thanks again.

Then again, the laces are pretty sexy and bones heal.

I'm still not convinced he was serious. I feel bad for anyone that needs to go to an internet triathlon forum for such personal issues.

Or maybe I should applaud his willingness to shine a light on such things but I'm tending to the former.

I'm going sockless since I'm wearing them in the swim to cut down my t1 time. I hate wet socks!

Reviving this thread. Need a new pair of shoes myself. Can't take the odor anymore.
Any thoughts on BOA vs velcro. Have a pair of Specialized with boa now which I find fine.

I have specialized BG, one with BOA and one without. I just like the BOA.

I just found that microscopic screw driver that I'm supposed to use if it breaks some day..... really? Has anyone fixed or adjusted a BOA product? At least I'll have a toothpick in my saddlebag.

I prefer Velcro, for the simple fact that it looks better. And is super easy to adjust, but so are ratchets and boas, so no real benefit there. Much harder to replace a broken Velcro strap than a boa wire, but with 3 of them your shoe isn't worthless if it happens.

i've heard the new Giro tech laces just take the Empire and make it even better...

@GentlemanJerseyDave I don't think the techlaces are worth the extra $150-200. You can get the empires for pretty cheap.
