Hey Canada!
I'm in Toronto 8/5-8/7 and then I got to Algonquin. I think its a provincial park or something. I'll be filming and living on a 17 acre island at a summer camp with almost no electricity. What I know is that I'll be near Huntsville.

- Anyone know the lake water quality up there? Is it freezing?

I plan to become a camp legend by swimming around the island a couple times - or more depending on the 40+ age group record. I'm told turtles are an issue at times but I'm not buying it.

The water is excellent pretty much everywhere up there. The lakes inside the park tend to be even better, but bring a wetsuit. It hasn't been a hot summer, and they have had a lot of rain. You get some boats on the big lakes like Lake of Bays, but nothing you can't manage.

You might take a gander at the Muskoka course while you are there. If you are using the main gate to Algonquin off highway 60, head back to Henrietta's Bakery at Dwight and turn onto Highway 35 and you're on the course.

@Martin - Thanks. I am literally stranded on this little island the whole time. As to the wetsuit: The kids take swimming lessons in there, can I really be "That Guy" when none of the kids do the same?

Then again - do I really care if I impress a bunch of 12 year olds? (A: I kind of do)

Having just watched an episode of The Wire where crackheads were stealing copper pipe, I thought for sure this was about stolen lumber. Got my Canadian English lesson for the day!

I never watched "the wire" but where I live during heavy garbage collection guys will drive around and cut the electrical cords from anything that you place at the curb. Microwaves, toasters, lamps, you name it. Snipsnipsnip. We actually had a power outage because a few dudes thought it would be a good idea to steal some copper from a sub-station and almost killed themselves.

@Tad_Machrowicz Better luck teaching the dog I think. I have a 17 and 18 year old at home. I feel you pain. I swear they thought the snow shoveling fairy was real for a few years.

My dad refuses to drive over snow in the driveway. Once you drive over it, it's there all winter. So, from about the time I was nine years old, he'd get me (and then my younger brother) out of bed while it was dark and before he left for work to scrape the driveway off. Then we'd go back to bed.
