Also how in the hell do you embed video in your post, I had to hardcode the video link above and could only get it to work by opening a new tab. Apparently I'm a moron.

I'm glad to know that all these months later that this thread still has a life.

    Hope things are well!

@Granpa Chook I just bought all 3LPs because they are amazing.

I feel bad discovering them a month before the guitarist/bassist/drummer all quit before NYE. Seriously bummed.

On a positive note, here are some recent purchases:
    Devin Townsend - Infinity
    Devin Townsend - Ocean Machine
Orphaned Land - El Norra Alila (25th Anniversary CD)
Orphaned Land - Sahara (25th Anniversary CD)
Orphaned Land - The Never Ending Way of ORwarriOR
    Orphaned Land & Amaseffer - Kna'an
Witherscape - The Northern Sanctuary (2CD Edition)
    The Sword - High Country
    The Sword - Low Country
    Be'lakor - Vessels
Death Angel - The Evil Divide
    Quo Vadis - Defiant Imagination
    Astronoid - Air
Perihelion Ship - A Rare Thunderstorm in Spring

    And for something completely different:
    Kamasi Washington - The Epic

A few comments following long absence...
    1. Echoing @GentlemanJerseyDave: Love that this thread is still kicking.
    1. @Matt - I adore Meshuggah (the last album notwithstanding). That Bleed/Allstar what have you may be the worst (best?) thing I've ever heard. Absolutely hilarious.
    2. Just saw Power Trip through Portland. Buddy of mine was Riley's HS teacher. Hung out and drank with him post-show. Interesting dude and really really good show.
    3. Khemmis. Doom. You're welcome.

I saw Testament and Sepultura last week (with Prong) and after the show met Gene Hoglan (thanked him for SYL among other things), Steve Di Giorgio (ditto for Quo Vadis) and Alex Skolnick (I'm huge fan of his Trio work).

Oh yes, I read about Khemmis' Hunted as it appeared on so many Top 2016 Album lists.

    Moonbow's War Bear.

I have a lot of mutual friends with the Power Trip people, but I think I've only met some of them in passing while I was touring. Good band.

Since I was last here I got that epic Emperor vinyl box set that makes every other record I own look like a turd.

Last week I grabbed the new Ghost Bath but haven't had a chance to listen. My expectations are high though.

I had to pass on seeing Life of Agony last week too. Any fans? "River Runs Red" is essential to me since the day it came out.

I like to classify Black Sabbath as "doom metal" because they sing most often about end of times stuff. And one of Mastodon's singers sounds just like Ozzy. (Brent Hines) Always love it when he sings.
    I'm recording this.

Well you would too if you were from Birmingham in the 50s and 60s.

Is Webstey still in Cuba? I can't bear the thought of him only being able to find a pre-1991 metal station down there.
I would like all of you experts on this thread to send Webstey post 1991 metal songs to save his soul.

My only claim to metal fame is making my unwitting grandparents buy me Paranoid, then torturing them with it for a week or two during a summer stay. I think I was 8. Needless to say, the next purchase stipulated "no more Black Sabbath". Hello Dark Side of The Moon. Still two of my favorite albums.
    Carry on.

I don't know. I could live off the '91 and earlier Earache Records catalog.

I could also live off pre-1991 stuff too. Then we wouldn't have grunge and Metallica would stop after Justice.

New Ghost Bath was a HUGE letdown. I mean collossal. I was into Moonlover since before they were on Nuclear. Even had my friend from China translate their page - she said their Chinese was essentially how I spoke Spanish so I wasn't shocked when they were outed as being from the USA.

Anyway, on my first listen I thought "maybe they are just taking a huge evolutionary step and I'm missing it". By the fourth listen I realized they are trying to be something they aren't.

I can't recall an album I've anticipated this much that didn't deliver for me.

I'm really looking forward to the Ryan Adams cover of this album. I feel he would bring just the right amount of morosity.

Selected Lyrics (translated by Google, so who the heck really knows):

Sometimes she fucks me, I like to take a big boulder,
Take it to your head, let the software fix you!
    Sometimes she fucks me,
You want me to judge, a poor cow?
Do you want me to feel bad, huh?
In the mirror, let's go to sleep! "

Saw this thread was still alive. I went to Pallbearer on this past Thursday night in Portland. You know, your typical weeknight metal concert.

My ears rang for a day and I am still reconstructing the melted layers of my face, one by one. It was great!
