I have a boycrush on Akerfeldt. It's unhealthy....His growls are only rivaled by Jens! for that special place in my black heart.

Dream Theater? Have their moments but I gravitate towards their heavier material (Train of Thought in particular). On the whole, casual meh. Have trouble with LaBrie's vocals. Feel like he's trying to hard to be taken seriously as a singer.

I couldn't get into SYL. I just got the new solo record from Abbath and it's pretty great.

Akerfeldt really does (or rather, did) some of the very best growls in metal. Too bad he didn't do more actual death metal... his work with Bloodbath was fantastic.

Metal Fans: any of you ever read Lords of Chaos about the development of the Norwegian Black Metal scene? If not you should. It is possibly the best book on rock n roll though Motley Crue's The Dirt is pretty phenomenal.

I bought the new Perturbator album today. Any of you gotten into the retro metal synth-wave trend? That's a major mouthful but they are rad.

I have no idea where this fits in on the spectrum, but found an old CD in my collection and forgot how much I liked it. Almost certainly featured on a snowboard video soundtrack in the early 1990s...

@GentlemanJerseyDave I like that Perturbator record. Also check Carpenter Brut's Trilogy. Been digging on that one for several months.

Danzig is what happens when Elvis sings for Black Sabbath

@kevinschummer - giving Carpenter Brut a listen now.

Danzig? He has a lifetime pass for singing in the Misfits and Samhain but he's been riding that shit and acting like an asshole because no one has given a shit about his new stuff for 15 years.

Here is a fun video titled "Danzig gets knocked out":

The new Perturbator dropped on Bandcamp today. It's rad.

my intern turned me into Grift. For those into the atmospheric black metal scene (I know it's all of you) the album "Syner" is a worthwhile listen.

I am not going to read this thread because fuck now. But, a friend just went to a show here in Philly that was some Mongolian metal band that didn't speak/scream any English...not that any metal bands do, to be honest.

Not sure if that is actually contributing anything, but...........yeah.

No clue. I just saw Ghengis Khan playing the death fiddle and some screaming on her Instagram. Then I hugged my children tightly and apologised for the world I brought them into.

So I realize that mentioning Metallica is not worthy of the depth of knowledge of all you experts on this thread, but I must say that their live performance on Howard Stern was pretty impressive. I'm not a metal guy at all. Their musicianship was off the charts today.

A friend just recommended Vektor and their latest album Terminal Redux. A unique mix of Thrash, Prog and Death Metal. It's AMAZING.
